Backup Fundamentals
Immutable Snapshots for VMware Estates
Design snapshot tiers, retention windows, and restore drills for clustered VMware environments without surprise data loss.
420,000 KRW · 32 hours over 4 weeks · Instructor-led online labs
Program description
This course walks administrators through snapshot lifecycle risks, datastore planning, and change-control documentation so restores stay predictable during maintenance windows. You rehearse partial restores, validate guest OS consistency, and map dependencies between storage policies and backup catalogs.
What is included
- Snapshot policy workbook aligned to change boards
- Hands-on lab: staged corruption and guided rollback
- Checklist for quiescing databases before capture
- Storage policy mapping to backup metadata fields
- Network isolation steps for sandbox restores
- Post-restore validation scripts for Windows and Linux guests
- Communication template for stakeholder updates
Outcomes you can evidence
- Publish a snapshot policy that names owners, cadence, and exceptions.
- Run a documented partial restore with signed verification steps.
- List three snapshot pitfalls your estate will monitor quarterly.

FAQ
Do I need a home lab cluster?
No. Labs use shared sandboxes. If you want to mirror tasks at work, two nested hosts are enough; we do not provide licenses.
Is database protection included end-to-end?
We cover quiescing and guest checks, not vendor-specific agents. Bring your DBA for deeper integration planning.
What is not covered?
Hypervisor licensing, storage hardware procurement, and legal discovery workflows are out of scope.
Participant notes
The partial restore lab finally made our CAB understand why snapshot chains need owners. Still want a deeper NetApp angle next time.
